Captain America: Civil War Summary (2023)

AKA Black Panther and Spider-Man are just what we needed

As the next installment in the Avenger storyline, this film had a lot going for it. With The Winter Soldier being so popular and Age of Ultron receiving very mixed reviews, fan anticipation and expectations have definitely increased. I would say that this movie lived up to my expectations in some ways, but there are important things that could be improved.

I'll admit that when I actually attended this film, I didn't attend the previous Captain America and The Avengers films in quick succession before the all-important midnight opening. This definitely got me even more excited than seeing the film myself so it had an odd effect on me for this viewing as I oddly found nothing to fail on until I went home and digested the events that had gone before. by mim.

For starters, the opening was more spy movie style with a bunch of heroes from different brands communicating what was going on. It reminded me of the vibe that Winter Soldier exudes and I was immediately drawn to it. But the sudden appearance of Crossbones had me shaking in my chair with excitement. I didn't know at first that they were looking for this, so I was very surprised to find out. It was so refreshing to see a little Marvel character presented like this, and in a blockbuster no less. However, we are also greeted by our new cartoon character, Falcon. I wasn't expecting this character to be as funny as he is, but Anthony Mackie really brought a light-hearted and light-hearted side to this role. It was also great to finally see Black Widow the way I think she should be. I've been consistently disappointed in her over the past 4 movies as she often doesn't seem to bring much to the table other than a little kicking and punching. Our next port of call is the man himself, Captain America. I feel like this movie is everything that Age of Ultron lacked, although I really enjoyed it. It felt like everything was on hold and, like Bucky, Civil War got back to business as usual. Chris Evans was as wonderful as ever, but his reasoning for not honoring agreements with or with Stark seemed rather odd for his character and actually quite inexplicable. Aside from trying to protect his best friend, it looked like he was just arguing about it. I just didn't find it particularly believable that his character would act like that, considering it's a form of law enforcement.

However, Sebastian Stan was flawless as Bucky Barnes. He transitions seamlessly between Bucky and The Winter Soldier and it's wonderful to finally see why and how it's all happening. I feel like he brought a lot of life not only to his character but also to Cap himself as it really felt like he was trying to be a part of Steve's life again. There was an obvious sympathy for each other. It also made Bucky's memory loss incredibly believable as he seemed completely innocent amidst everything he was accused of.

Also on Team Cap we see the return of Jeremy Renner as who is believed to be the retired Hawkeye. It was great to see him return, but also seeing him "gone rogue" was pretty refreshing considering he left so much behind to help Team Cap. He is another character who has shown genuine compassion, and once again, for the Scarlet Witch. As in Age of Ultron, he was there to help her in her time of need. On the other hand, Elizabeth Olsen was just as good as Wanda, but she had a much shakier accent than in Age of Ultron. She borders on an American accent for much of the film, which for me detracted a bit from the experience considering her Russian accent was pretty good beforehand. But that team got a lot better for me with the introduction of Ant-Man. Paul Rudd was as funny as ever, as was Scott Lang, if a little unnerving at times. He has a great sense of humor and definitely brought a lot to the table, but his goofy fangirling with the other characters was a bit over the top, almost annoying. But I have to say having him switch from "Tic-Tac" to Giant Man really made up for it.

Next, let's look at the other side of things. east"civil warIt starts with a little disagreement, not unlike any other war. But of course Iron Man mixes things up as usual. Robert Downey Jr. As always, a pleasure to watch. As a Team Iron Man fan, I wasn't disappointed with this choice (just to be clear, I'm not biased in any way, I just like the boldness). I didn't find him very good as a "team" leader, but as Iron Man he was just as fun to watch as ever. Consequently, his partnership with James Rhodes (AKA War Machine) was fabulous to watch. It's always a pleasure to see these characters together. Paul Bettany was once again absolutely brilliant as a vision, but he was also a lot of fun. He added just the right amount of comic relief to his character to show that he's not a gimmick, but he's also not overly serious. Plus, her cooking sequence was absolutely hilarious.

The true star of Team Iron Man is definitely Chadwick Boseman as the Black Panther. His portrayal as avenge-seeker for the King of Wakanda was absolutely flawless. I also cried again when she cried over her dead father's body (there was a lot of emotion felt, especially after 14 hours of shooting). He's another character that plays both sides of him seamlessly, as the transformation between T'Challa and Black Panther isn't easy to play. But his thirst for revenge for his father's death was little questioned, and consequently he joined Team Iron Man to defeat Bucky for his team and himself.

However, we have to talk about good old Spidey. I have to admit that I've made a fewpretty inhuman noiseswhen sweet little Tom Holland appeared on the scene. His introduction was equally awkward and hilarious, which is everything Spider-Man should be. But one thing bothered me immediatelyaunt canhe is suddenly 35-40 years old and is approached by Tony Stark. alert someone? Probably not just me. Anyway, very strange, but not totally soul-destroying. His fight sequences were also spot on as he fiddles around and talks to all the different heroes like a teenager would instead of just fighting them. His constant amazement made him seem like a cute little fan, which really made him a believable and genuine character. Tom Holland, well done! You have reclaimed what Spider-Man always was, and I salute you.

When I saw Daniel Brühlgaspin such a dramatic way and shaking my head so hard that I'm sure everyone around me thought I was crazy. As some of you may know, I'm a huge Inglourious Basterds fan and I think Daniel is a wonderful villain in this movie, well as soon as I saw him in Civil WarI knew he was the guy🇧🇷 The one who would really screw everything up. He was a wonderful villain, but with a terrible motive. As scary as it was that the Avengers were part of his family's downfall, there was literally no reason to destroy them completely. It was deliciously sneaky and a wonderful plan, but I really hoped that a more solid reason, even if it was mentally unstable, would have served me well. But overall he was a great Zemo and I love what they did with the character.

I don't have many negatives about this movie because it was such a delight, but one thing that really bothered me was the constant changing of locations because the huge text telling you where to go really has you out of everything out. Experience. Pretty distracted to say the least. Also, it felt really pointless for the story to introduce more Winter Soldiers since it was just a plot to get Steve and Bucky to Siberia so things could get really crazy. It actually bothered me quite a bit as it was a shame not to see her in action for more than a few minutes. But then again, finding them dead cast that dark shadow over the Marvel Universe and brought back something of the Avengers' heartbreaking side. A real plot twist and a half. Finally, the first post-credits scene was a bit average, but other than that it was okay.

Overall, Civil War was a pretty good movie. A solid addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and a lot of fun to watch. Some changes could be made but I have to say I'm still blown away. And that second post-credits sequence? Can't wait for it to happen!!!
